Radio ideas conference series
Next Radio was an annual conference for people excited about the future of radio and audio, created by me and James Cridland and running in London from 2011 to 2018. Described as a “radio ideas conference”, it brought together people from across broadcasting, technology, advertising and audio to share interesting ideas, practical lessons and new ways of thinking about the medium.
The format was deliberately fast-moving: speakers were given just nine or eighteen minutes, with no long panels or drawn-out presentations. Across eight years, Next Radio featured broadcasters, producers, technologists, journalists and creators from the UK and around the world, covering everything from great radio and storytelling to digital platforms, podcasts, data and emerging technology. The talks were also filmed and made freely available online, creating an archive of ideas from a particularly interesting period of change in the radio industry.
